Lund Academic Choir
The Lund Academic Choir with some 50 singers is Odeum’s largest choir and led by Choral Director, Cecilia Martin-Löf. The choir was formed in 1927 as a women’s choir, but later became a mixed choir in order to expand its repertoire. The choir has been a part of Odeum since 2007. The singers in the choir are mostly undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral students at the University. The repertoire is varied, but the emphasis is on classical music for a cappella choirs. Lund Academic Choir holds about 10 concerts each year, both within Odeum’s event series and in other contexts outside the University. The choir sings regularly at University academic ceremonies such as professorial inaugurations and doctoral degree conferment ceremonies. The choir also regularly goes on tour. In the summer of 2008, the choir travelled to Poland to compete in an international choral festival, and under Cecilia Martin-Löfs direction won the prize for best conductor, best interpretation of a Polish piece and the competition’s Grand Prix. Subsequently, the choir has been on concert tours to Berlin and Würzburg in southern Germany.
As a singer in the Lund Academic Choir, you are part of a unique community, in a choir of high musical quality, where the social side is also very important. Many keep in contact with the choir and the friends they have made, long after they have left the choral life. Singing in the Lund Academic Choir is a highpoint of student life in Lund!
