This autumn’s concerts at the Science Village Hall, made possible thanks to the generous support of the LMK Foundation, will begin with a guest performance by the Royal Swedish Navy Band. Their programme, Nordic Piano, will feature Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 7 and Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, performed by pianist Per Tengstrand (8/10). There will be more piano music accompanied by an orchestra later on, when former Lund University professor of piano Hans Pålsson visits Odeum to perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major. This concert will also feature a discussion about Mozart’s piano music, with a particular focus on his piano concertos (21/11).
The programme for the Lund University Academic Orchestra’s concert in early November features Ludwig van Beethoven’s rhythmically striking, and in many ways euphoric, Symphony No. 7. The symphony has a distinctive, dance-like character that sets it apart from Beethoven’s other works. The concert will also feature Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, with Malin Nyström from the Malmö Symphony Orchestra as soloist (7/11). As part of the Lund Choral Festival, there will also be a concert at Brunnshög featuring a chamber version of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with choir, percussion and piano, all conducted by Director Cantorum Cecilia Martin-Löf (11/10). Don’t miss the chance to experience this spectacular piece in a different kind of instrumentation!
In addition to the concerts taking place at Science Village Hall, Odeum’s programme of events includes a variety of other exciting offerings. How about a talk on what a piece of music actually is, metaphysically speaking, as part of our Thursday Talks (12/11)? Alternatively, there is the concert Det är sen gammalt at the Historical Museum, where the award-winning Höör Barock ensemble will perform music from the Lund University Academic Orchestra’s collection at the University Library (26/9). The pieces will be played on modern versions of the Baroque instruments on display at the museum. In addition, Kvartöver, Odeum’s lunchtime concerts, where students from the Malmö Academy of Music give music performances (2/10, 20/11).
The autumn series of events will conclude with the Lund University Christmas Concert. As is tradition, the Lund University Academic Choir and the Lund University Academic Orchestra will set the mood for the approaching festive season (5/12). Also not to be missed are Odeum’s luminous and heartfelt Lucia concerts, featuring the Lund University Academic Choir, a tradition that stretches far back in the university town of Lund (12/12, 13/12).
