Facilities

Palaestra et Odeum

Palaestra et Odeum, designed by architect Helgo Zettervall, was built in 1883. It is classified as a listed building and owned by the National Property Board of Sweden (Statens fastighetsverk). The building originally housed a gymnastics hall (palaestra) and concert hall (odeum). After a fire in the 1980s, the gymnastics hall was replaced by an auditorium, but Odeum remains a centre for music.

Kapellsalen

Kapellsalen ("the Chapel Hall") at Palaestra et Odeum was named after Akademiska kapellet (the Lund University Academic Orchestra), which has rehearsed there since 1883. "Kapell" (chapel) is an ancient Swedish word for orchestra, so the name is not connected to religious activities.
Odeum’s ensembles rehearse at Kapellsalen every week. Kapellsalen is also a venue for lectures and chamber concerts.

In the building there are also facilities for Odeum’s staff and music library.

Other venues

Odeum's ensembles perform on various stages in Lund and the surrounding area. The university auditorium and Kapellsalen are our home stages, but churches in Lund and Malmö, the Palladium and Malmö Live are also venues we frequently visit.

As the university building is to be renovated over a four-year period from 2025, Odeum will have to move its larger concerts to this new venue. From spring 2025, Odeum's choir and orchestra concerts will therefore be held in Lund's new concert and congress centre Science Village Hall (The Loop) in the Brunnshög district. It is easily accessible by tram line 1 (Lund ESS), bicycle or car.
